Omo Valley Photography Tour Itinerary
Drive 220 km (4 hours) from Jimma to Mizan Teferi via Bonga enjoying the beautiful nature, on the way you will explore Wushwush tea farms.
Overnight: Salayish Hotel
Drive 100km on an asphalt road to Dimma through the beautiful tropical canopy and stop in Dimma for lunch. Continue the 90km gravel road to Kibish. Until the team setup the camping, you will do photography of the Suri (Surma) tribe by the Kibish River.
Overnight: Camping at Kibisk campsite
After having breakfast at your camp, you will head to a Suri village where you will find photogenic tribal paintings and large lip plated women. Return to our campsite for lunch and a break, then head to another Suri village and do your photography.
Overnight: Camping at Kibish Campsite
After breakfast, drive 150km from Kibish to Omo National Park via the new road to Omo sugar factories and pay the mandatory entrance fee at the park. Continue 90 km drive on asphalt road to Kangaten town then head to the Nyangatom tribal village to visit the beautiful Nyangatom people. You will do photography with the Nyangatom tribe, after lunch continue driving to Karo village. in the late afternoon you will get the best photos of the famous Kara tribe who live by the Omo River.
Overnight: Camping at Karo Village
You can do an early photography at the Karo village and depart for 60 km drive to Turmi. You will take a break from camping by staying at the best lodge in Turmi while doing your activity with the Hamar tribe. In the afternoon, you may see the Bull Jumping Ceremony (if available) and a tribal market (on market day, Monday, Thursday, and Saturday). If ceremony or market is not available, you will visit the Hamar tribe village.
Overnight: Paradise Lodge in Turmi
Drive 75 km to Omo Rate to spend a genuine time with the Dassanech people and do your photography with the Dassanech tribe. The Dassanech tribe are also called people of the delta. They live a pastoral lifestyle on the Ethio Kenya border. After you great experience with the Dassanech people, continue to Jinka town passing Turmi, Dimeka, Alduba, and Keyafer towns. You may see a tribal market in one of the towns on a market day (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday).
Overnight: Eco Omo Lodge in Jinka
Drive about 70 km to meet with the famous Mursi tribe. The Mursi and the Suri have resemblances, however, the Mursi make less paintings than the Suri and more naturally than the Suri. During the best light for photography in the afternoon, you will visit an authentic Mursi village.
Overnight: Camping at Mursi village
After your morning photography with the Mursi Village, you will continue 230km to Konso. Following your lunch in Konso you will visit the Konso village which is a world heritage site of UNESCO. You will also visit the Wakas erected as a grave mark.
Overnight: Kanta Lodge in Konso
Following breakfast, continue driving 90 km (2 hours) to Arba Minch. After lunch visit the Dorze village and experience the local food called Koche, discover their unique weaving and pottery skills.
Overnight: Haile Resort Arba Minch
Following breakfast, embark on a boat excursion on Lake Chame to see crocodiles and hippos. After lunch, you will be transferred to Arba Minch airport for your afternoon flight to Addis Ababa.
